Rangers Game Recap: Astros @ Rangers 5/21

Texas Rangers defeated the Houston Astros 7-5. Kyle Gibson had a good outing going 6 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 run. Gibson now ties the franchise record with his ninth consecutive start of at least 6 innings with three or fewer runs allowed. Rookie sensation Adolis García continued his great season with a 5 RBI game his 2nd doing so this year and 3 came off a walkoff home run in the bottom of the 10th. Rangers were down to their last out when García came to the plate with Calhoun at third and Gallo at first and sent the second pitch over the right field fence to win it for the Rangers and the Astros’ rally fell short.

Astros were down 4-1 entering the top of the 8th inning. Rodríguez was brought on to pitch and after allowing Tucker to get on base with a single gave up back to back doubles to Correa and Castro that brought in 2 runs. Ian Kennedy was brought in to close the inning but gave up a single to Altuve and the game was tied. This was Jose Altuve’s first hit of the game going 1 for 6 and keeps his hitting streak going up to 15 games. This was Kennedy’s first blown save of the year. For the Rangers Nate Lowe went 2 for 5 with 1 RBI, Brock Holt went 1 for 4 returning from his injury with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, and Joey Gallo went 0 for 2 but drove 3 walks. This was just Ranger’s 2nd win in their last 11 games. Rangers have 2 more games in this series vs Astros with Jordan Lyles and Mike Foltynewicz up to pitch for them.
