NBA Draft profiles: Jalen Green, bag Twitter’s golden boy

Early life, High School & Recruiting

Born Jalen Romande Green on February 9th, 2002 to Bree Purugganan in Merced California alongside his sisters Raquel and Jurnee, Jalen grew up loving the sport of basketball and despite not having a favorite team growing up, Jalen did idolize a player, that being one of the greatest pure scorers of all-time Brooklyn Nets Forward Kevin Durant.  Green played his high school ball at San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno California where he balled out. During his High School career, Jalen averaged 28.2 Points per game, 3.0 assists per game, 7.7 rebounds per game on respectable 52/35/78 shooting splits. These numbers along with his once-in-a-generation scoring talent led him to receive just about every high school honor imaginable including but not limited to McDonald’s All American game invite, Jordan Brand Classic invitational, Nike Hoop Summit invites, and Sports Illustrated All-American player of the year. These honors and his clear offensive skills made him the top Shooting Guard recruit on all credible recruiting sites and a consensus top 3 high school recruit of the class of 2020. Jalen received offers from; Washington, Villanova, UTEP, USC, UNLV, UConn, UCLA, Oklahoma State, Maryland, Kansas, Fresno State, Florida State, Creighton, Cincinnati, Cal, Arizona, Kentucky, Memphis, Auburn, and Oregon. All these offers culminated in an Instagram Live to remember where he announced that he wouldn’t be going to college but instead be joining the newly formed G League Ignite. A college alternative that gives the prospects a chance to improve their skills while also making a bit of money.
