New York Jets

Jets Game Recap, Jets lose Season Opener 27-17 to the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park.

I promised myself last year to not get my hopes up, and I failed. Ladies and Gentlemen we waited 7 months for The New York Football Jets to be defeated 27 to 17 to the Buffalo Bills. From afar, many may say this isn’t an awful loss to a team that is considered a playoff team. However, it was a bad loss because it was a winnable game, if you saw the game. Then, we lost one of our starting MLB, Blake Cashman, and our starting RB, Le’Veon Bell. So much for being in the best shape of your life. Here are some takeaways from the game:

TAKEAWAYS:

Negatives:

Adam Gase (Head Coach): Our coach is now deciding to call screens to a Tight End on a third down. A screen play to a TIGHT END, on a THIRD DOWN?! That is an awful play call unless your tight end is George Kittle or Travis Kelce, but you don’t, you have Christopher Herndon IV. A third-year tight end who still needs to prove himself. Then, you go into the postgame news conference and say, “We just played bad,” I mean duh, you played bad, YOU LOST! As former head coach, Herm Edwards, once said in a postgame news conference, “You play to win the GAME!”. I don’t feel like this coach is coaching to win the game. I don’t know if he realizes that he’s on the hot seat. Maybe not to ownership, but Jets fans want him out, and who blames them? He doesn’t call the right plays and is wasting Bell’s career. Boo, this man!

Butterfingers (Receivers): What is a receiver paid to do? They are paid to catch the ball and get yards after the catch if they can. In the first half, our receivers couldn’t even catch a beach ball even if their life counted on it! In the second half, they progressed and got better. However, Herndon dropped the game losing fumble. It killed all the momentum we had in the game. Hogan dropped a TD pass, Crowder dropped lots of passes but had a nice seven rec, 115 rec yards, with a TD. However, Perriman was very quiet, which scares me. Even though Tre’Davious White covered him, I would’ve liked him to get a couple of grabs. This receiving core has become a big problem.

Ghost DL: Our defensive line was quite atrocious, Quinnen and Shepherd were like ghosts on the field, and Josh Allen was the ghostbuster. There was a play that Allen ran right through Shep. It was odd and too confusing. Quinnen made one big-time tackle, but for the rest of the game, he was playing as a bust. Allen ran right through our defense. This wasn’t very pleasant for the season opener.

Where are the tackles?: The Jets defense made 89 total team tackles, which seems nice compared to the 49 total team tackles the Bills had, but the Jets played defense for 41 minutes and 16 seconds, while the Bills played defense for 18 minutes and 44 seconds. That changes the way the stats look like. They had many missed tackles, and only eight tackles for loss in 41:16 while the Bills had six tackles for loss in 18:44. The defense was probably tired because they played for so long; however, they need to play better.

Disappointing Desir: The newly signed cornerback, Pierre Desir, had quite the game. He was burnt as a bad as a burnt chicken nugget. We knew going into this game it’d be a test for Desir, and he got an F! He didn’t allow Diggs to get a TD, but allowed him to make the game-changing plays to set up for a TD. Diggs had eight rec with 86 yards, and Desir was subbed out for Nate Hairston in mid-game.

Injuries: Our starting MLB, Blake Cashman, and RB, Le’Veon Bell, both went down with injuries today. Significant losses for the team.

Sam Darnold: I love this kid, but he’s running out of time. He threw 21-35, 215 yds, 1 TD, and 1 INT. I understand he has an awful coach and not a good offense, but this is his prove-it year.

Positives:

Jamal Who?: Marcus Maye looked insanely good! He had 10 TOT tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble! McDougald did his thing with 8 TOT tackles, one pass deflection, and a fumble recovery. They did great!

Bless Em’: Blessaun Austin was the only cornerback alongside Poole that showed up and kept his ground. He had 8 TOT tackles and one pass deflection. He showed up to play today!

MOUNT MEKHI: This man is a MONSTER! I don’t recall seeing him allow a sack. He did have a penalty but that was to make sure Sam didn’t get sacked. This man is a beast!

THE Mann: This Mann can kick! He had a lot of work today with six punts, 278 yds, 46.3 average yards, and 58 yards being his longest. This Mann is good!

This was quite disappointing and will most likely keep getting worse with San Francisco next Sunday. Be prepared, Jets fans! We are here with you! This has been Jose Calderon III, with FiveBoroughDispatch! Have a great day, everybody!
